Menopause Matters at Edmonds & Slatter
In recognition of International Women's Day, Edmonds & Slatter are proud to announce our commitment to becoming a menopause-friendly employer.
We aim to ensure all employees feel supported and valued in their workplace. This commitment includes introducing menopause awareness, guidance, and support within our practices.
Menopause typically occurs around age 51, but symptoms can begin years earlier. Hormonal changes can also occur during fertility treatments, medication use, or other hormonal interventions, leading to similar symptoms. As a team, we frequently interact with individuals experiencing these changes, and we strive to foster a supportive and understanding environment.
Menopause is a topic that affects everyone, not just women. Increased awareness allows us to better support our colleagues, friends, and family. Symptoms of menopause vary and can be physical or psychological, including hot flushes, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, and brain fog. One often overlooked symptom is dry eye. During menopause, hormonal changes can affect the oil and fluid-producing glands in the eyelids, disrupting tear production and quality, leading to dry eye symptoms. As opticians, we are well-equipped to manage dry eye, offering various options depending on whether you are peri-menopausal, menopausal, or post-menopausal, and if you are on hormone replacement therapy.
As we work towards our accreditation, we will continue to provide optical advice to our patients with dry eye, whether menopause-related or not, helping to alleviate their daily symptoms. If you are experiencing dry eye symptoms, don't hesitate to contact us. Our team is here to help you find the best management options and improve your eye health. Reach out today to schedule a consultation.
