Colorimetry
Coloured overlays and tinted spectacle lenses have been shown to benefit individuals suffering with Visual Stress, Dyslexia, Photosensitive Migraines, and other related conditions. At Edmonds & Slatter Opticians, we have staff specially trained in Overlay and Full Colorimetry Assessments, utilizing specialist overlay screening kits and our advanced Intuitive Colorimeter.

The Colorimetry assessment is a 3 step process:
1. Full Eye Examination
Anyone experiencing difficulty reading or symptoms of Visual Stress should begin with a comprehensive eye examination. This is essential to rule out any underlying eye conditions that could be causing or contributing to the symptoms. If eligible, this examination may be covered by the NHS.
2. Overlay Assessment Appointment
Once the eye examination confirms that ocular issues are not the cause of the symptoms, an overlay assessment can be performed by a member of our fully trained Colorimetry team. The optometrist may recommend using a coloured overlay for a few weeks to monitor improvements in reading speed and accuracy.
3. Colorimetry Assessment Appointment*
After successfully using a coloured overlay for a specified period, a final assessment can be conducted with a specialised device called an Intuitive Colorimeter. This process determines the precise tint tailored to your individual needs for custom spectacle lenses, which may differ from the overlay tint. *Please note this appointment can only be completed at our Blaby practice.
Dry Eye Clinic
If you experience discomfort, burning, stinging, itchiness, or a gritty sensation, you may have dry eyes. This can cause redness, watering, soreness, and affect vision clarity due to poor-quality tears. While dry eye can occur at any age, it’s more common as we get older and may be linked to medications or health conditions.
We offer a Dry Eye Clinic to help diagnose and manage your symptoms, particularly when other investigations have been unsuccessful. This is a private specialist service, as the clinical techniques used go beyond those in a standard or NHS eye exam. Before your consultation, you will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire to assist our optometrists in assessing the cause of your dry eye symptoms.
Ocular Hygiene

Edmonds and Slatter Opticians have several Ocular Hygienists on staff, specially trained to address eye conditions like Blepharitis, which can impact vision and comfort. Approximately 60% of people suffer from ailments like Blepharitis without realizing that these conditions can often be prevented with simple lifestyle changes and a proper cleaning routine.
Our Ocular Hygienists are well-equipped to advise patients on maintaining good eye health and managing these common issues, helping to alleviate unnecessary discomfort. They will take the time needed to explain your eye care regimen and demonstrate the use of specific management products. Additionally, they are available to answer any questions you may have after your visit, so you don’t have to wait until your next eye exam for assistance.
Hearing Clinic
Hearing loss impacts much more than just our ears. It serves as a vital link to connecting with friends and family, feeling confident in new hobbies, participating in social activities, and engaging with the world around us.

Edmonds and Slatter Opticians offer a hearing care clinic in collaboration with The Hearing Care Partnership. Our hearing care specialists provide a comprehensive range of services, including complimentary hearing assessments, consultations for hearing protection and tinnitus, and the latest techniques, such as microsuction, for safe ear wax removal. This ensures that each patient can fully enjoy life.

If you have any additional questions or would like to schedule an appointment for our examinations or services, please feel free to call any of our practices, and we’ll be more than happy to assist you.
